As I sit and drink my coffee...a few words on the nature of Café Notes

WHAT ARE THEY? ...Cafe Notes are a series of short blurbs on a variety of topics that relate to Poly2Plyos programming, recent research, or casual observations of human movement. They are written as an opinion or perspective and are not a full document. In that way they can give a bit of information, and perhaps stimulate more investigation if the reader is extra curious.

WHERE HAVE THEY COME FROM? … Writing down reflections from a coffee shop is the obvious and common source, but they may also come from long walks, sitting on planes or trains, or sitting on a beach. They connecting factor is that bit of solitude that provides an opportunity to reflect on stuff that is of interest in the domains of physical preparation. They may also originate from chats with other coaches or athletes, typically from a coffee place...

WHO ARE THEY FOR? …The short answer might be anyone. Realistically not everyone will want to read them, but from experience there are enough who are curious about background information to warrant the writing of an opinion piece about relevant programmes or recent findings. Originally, writings like this were for coaches and trainers who had vested interests in knowing a bit more than a new exercise. In recent times there has been a growing recognition that anyone using exercise conditioning can benefit from the information or perspectives.

WHY ARE THEY WRITTEN? …These scribblings started as a way to not feel a compulsion to add background information to a visual programme series. Feedback from users was very clear the extra bits were a distraction or interfered with the basic instruction. So, now they are a side piece that relates to a programme available from Poly2Plyos.

HOW ARE CAFÉ NOTES ORGANISED? …In short, they are not a library requiring a catalogue number. They are produced from actual reflective moments and typically associated with a programme that has been designed earlier. Some serve as the initiative for designing programmes when the casual reflection creates the potential for a programme. The intention is to provide
space for a current Note, and then place others in an archive of sorts that is available to all.
